A Servant Heart: Day 2....

Luke 14:7-11 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honour at the table, he told them this parable: [8] "When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honour, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. [9] If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this man your seat.' Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. [10] But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honoured in the presence of all your fellow guests. [11] For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
It's not about status.... we shouldn't be worried about how we look to others, shouldn't be mentally sizing each other up and trying to work out a pecking order with the intent of making sure we are moving up that ladder, but it is about finding the place that Jesus wants us to be in. I think when I observe believers I know, I see that the ones who are most conent are the ones who have been faithful to the calling and station God has called them too. They don't bother about status because they know who's gaze gives them real affirmation..... I want to find that contentment too. That's my prayer for tonight

I think what is most important is not how worldly people view us but how god views us. I only want to be worthy in his view. I hope to think about myself less and help those who are really in need more often.

  • Vince's Random thoughts for the day:

If we seek to humble ourselves, we can see God truly working in our lives - Consider yourself giving up material things and status such as fast cars and high flying job titles.

Compare this with Jesus giving up his status as God with that intimacy gone, he became man, born in a stable, and felt hunger, pain and sorrow etc... May we grow to accept Christ's view more and more as we humble ourselves to serve all.

  • You are an amazing person Jason. I can see how much God has blessed you with willingness to love and serve others.

Like what Vince said, we should sit back and reflect how much worldly things mean to us. And, how we will feel should we lose them. Not materialistic things only, but emotional - eg: pride. Imagine being ridiculed in front of a big group of people. How many of us can swallow it without having VERY EVIL thoughts in our head. (I always do)

So if there's anything to pray for today, it will be to ask God to teach us to be humble, but to also trust that He will be there to strenghten us during those times when we do choose to serve him, instead of ourselves.
